Hull ticks the boxes - in the 2013 YPU Exhibition

12th May 2013
Saturday 11th May 2013 was the opening of the 114th Yorkshire Photographic Union’s Annual Exhibition and Awards day. The event, held in Hull this year, was supported by the F4 Photography Group, the exhibition in the Long Gallery of Hull College of Art and Design is on till 31st May 2013.

The Awards event was at the Hull Truck Theatre a different format this year with guest speaker and professional renowned wildlife photographer Andy Rouse presenting the awards. He also gave a short and captivating presentation on a small selection of his recent work.

On to the numbers, 1372 prints and 1549 digital images were entered into the exhibition; an acceptance rate of 12.4% or 363 images meant having your work accepted was an achievement in itself.

The exhibition proved to be another successful year for me, collecting the Portrait Trophy for my print of “Martina” along with a further two prints gaining a Certificate of Merit award, “Corn Exchange Leeds” and “Fairy Pools - Isle of Skye”. A fourth print of “Elgol - Isle of Skye” was also accepted into the exhibition.

My digital acceptances this year were a little disappointing with just one acceptance “Out on the Pull” but on the up side it came with a Certificate of Merit award.
